BBC Studios
BBC Store
BBC Store was launched in 2015 as a new consumer-facing site where users could purchase and watch content from a large selection of the corporation's archives, from black-and-white 1960s Doctor Who up to the previous week's TV, with the aim of creating a new revenue stream that would make up for falling physical media sales.
However by 2015, subscription video-on-demand services such as Netflix were growing in popularity at the expense of download-to-own sites such as BBC Store. The site lasted just over two years before closing in November 2017.
Technology
The front-end of the site was built in Drupal 7 which provided a robust core CMS framework that was then able to be tailored to requirements using custom scripts, modules and themeing.
My role
Drupal themeing and javascript development across the site's front-end, from pre-launch support, post-launch feature development, through to the eventual static site development post-closure.
